Welcome to the Gamer's DRM Wiki!

This Wiki is a sister site to The Honest Game, a watchdog blog about DRM, hardware restrictions, lawsuits, and other issues that affect the gamer's ability to play the games they purchase without limits, annoyances, or the installation of troublesome malware.

The Gamer's DRM Wiki is a simple wiki meant for the use of spreading information regarding the DRM systems which protect today's games. The purpose of this wiki is to increase awareness about gaming DRM and to make it possible for consumers to purchase games with full knowledge of what restrictions are placed on the product. Game companies rarely make this information readily available, making it difficult to find out what DRM is protecting a game before it is purchased. For example, a gamer looking to buy a game they can play without an internet connection will have hard time finding out if the game they want to purchase requires online activation during installation or an active internet connection while playing an offline portion of the game. Here, that information can be found.

Because of the massive number of games in the market, a wiki is the best way to collect this information, as any one person or closed group would never be able to keep information up to date. You are welcomed and encouraged to contribute, provided that your register. Also, this wiki does have a requirement that all pages keep a basic structure intact at the top of each page. The structures is simply the answers to seven important questions any consumer will want to know about the game they're about to purchase.

Is the game protected by a serial code?
Does the game require a DVD/CD in the drive?
Does the game require an active internet connection to install?
Does the game require an active internet connection to play?
Does the game require the player to sign up for a specific service in order to play? (I.e. Steam)
Does the game limit the number of installs?
Does the game install software that is likely to damage the stability or performance of the system?

This is accompanied by a simple classification of Open, Restricted, or Dangerous. For more information about the classifications, please visit the DRM Classification Page.
